"Swabbin' 4 Robin" encouraging bone marrow donors | Events
HAMMOND – Southeastern Louisiana University students will conduct a “Swabbin’ 4 Robin” event in the Student Union Mall to call attention to the need for potential bone marrow donors. The project, which was organized last year in honor of alumna Anchor Robin Roberts who is recovering from a bone marrow transplant, encourages students to sign up with the national nonprofit registry Be the Match as potential donors.
The event will be held Wednesday, Feb. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1p.m.
Swabbin’ 4 Robin student and faculty volunteers will be on hand in the Union Mall to share information about bone marrow diseases and register new potential donors to the national bone marrow donor database through the nonprofit organization Be the Match. Lady Lions basketball players, the Lionettes and Roomie (mascot) will be there to encourage participation.
